bring out your 1.) novocaine and 2.) percocet

It's been a rough day. See, there are a few things in life I'm scared of. I've talked about my fear of flying before, but there are a few fears which I haven't blog-fessed-up to. Until now. 1.) I'm scared when people in the passenger's seat of my car touch the airbag. Like, seriously , don't put your feet up on it if you ever want to ride with me again. Just don't. I'm afraid it will go off, burning your face and probably totaling my car because the things are so damned expensive to replace. Or so I've heard. (And for the record, I've had this air-bag fear since my high school days, and well before one deployed near my face in my a-deer-hit-me-on-the-highway-wreck in May of 2000.) Whew. I'm glad I let that out. But it was merely a digression. Read on, friends. Read on. 2.) I'm scared of oral dental surgery. That's why I still have all four of my mostly-impacted wisdom teeth. And that's why when I chipped a tooth mont...

Friday Five

1. I'm going to run over my neighbor's cat. Not on purpose. It won't be my fault. See, he likes to lounge in my driveway (the cat, not the neighbor) and when I try to pull my car into said driveway, the damn cat does not budge. I actually had to stop at the top of my driveway yesterday and shoo him to get him to skedoodle. And that was a lot of work. So, I'm considering accidental-looking cat murder. 2. I felt really fat today, and I kept complaining about  mentioned it. In front of an obese coworker. Then, I felt insensitive and fat. 3. Is anyone else watching Big Brother? Or am I the only one? Anyone planning on watching Bachelor Pad? It starts Monday and I am already salivating over the impending sleeze. 4. Seriously, I love writing for Examiner.com . Check out all the articles I've written so far here.  (Also, read my super cute bio. It rocks, if I do say so myself.) 5. Something in my kitchen reekslikeass. It might be my leftover-leftovers fr...

i am out of steam

I'm working on a new "project" which I will be unveiling soon! (Ohhhh, the mystery.) You'll just have to wait to see what it is. For now, all I've got for you is a huge and  very sincere TGIFspice: No, really. Thank GOD and jesus and mary that it's Friday. For the love of all that is holy, I never thought this week would end.

castles in the sand

I'll be unplugged next week while I'm at the beach getting my vacay on. Yes, I know you'll miss me, but absence makes the heart grow even fonder! For the record, I am quite behind on my google reader. I'm hoping to catch up and visit all your fabulous blogs before I leave. Mama loves you! In other news, is this not awesome?! ... I'll be back next week with photos galore of my bathing suit baby bump (which will probably be made up of about 14 pounds of peel-and-eat shrimp and other beachy treats. If I can't drink frozen adult beverages, you'd better believe I'll be reaching levels of intoxication via food.) Good-bye, land lubbers. I'm beach bound!

TMI-Thursday: Friday Edition

God, I suck at blogging lately. Anyway. A few things: Preggo-vision I've got to stop watching those baby shows on the Discovery Health Channel. Most episodes are graphic, stress-inducing, and wrap up with happy endings that make me cry. Baby Dreams I had a dream last night that my baby was born, like, yesterday. He was a boy, but he was the size of a toddler and could pretty much walk and talk. I was like, "What do you want your name to be?" He had a big nose. He looked a lot like hubs side of the family. I sort of woke up in a cold sweat. Number Two For the first time in two days... this morning... It was heavenspice. o-face Hubs and I got busy a couple of nights ago. The reason I was willing is because he bribed me with the last ice cream drumstick. I'm like a chocolate prostitute. He paid me in the form of a frozen treat for sex. Yes, that is hillarious. However, the official TMI part is that the sexy-time was even more enjoyable than usual. May...

taggy waggy

Natalie Murphy and Tina Sandoval tagged me because they wanted to know my answers to the following: At least I think Tina tagged me. Maybe she didn't. I can't remember. If she didn't, then I tag her now. Question 1: Where were you five years ago? 1. Only working part-time (for the first time in my life) as a waitress. In fact, I might have not even been back to work yet because I was: 2. Still unpacking from a sanity-vacation. (That would be a good Thursday story.) 3. Heavily medicated. 4. Wondering if I would ever feel like me again. 5. Probably more profoundly sad than I have ever been before or since. (2005 was a rough year. May of 2005 might have been the roughest.) Question 2: Where would you like to be five years from now? 1. The hottest Mommy sitting by the kiddie pool. 2. A writer of published fiction heavily loosely based on May of 2005, 3. Earning at least 20k more than I do at my current job. 4. Debt free except for the house. 5. Livin...

an unclaimed reward and a writerly edition

Update : Hubs obviously does not know about my blog. Or, if he does, he doesn't stalk it. Therefore, hubs did not get any rewards last night. Writerleigh: ( What? Amber Leigh Tidd Murphy still writes? Since when? And she's blogging about writing? Wait, hold the phone!) (Hey, enough sarcasm from you, dear followers. That'll do.) So, I've decided that one of my hugest fundamental flaws is a LACK of writing in scenes . Here's the thing: I don't know why the hell I have this problem. Maybe it's because I'm writing over large portions of time. (Chapter One currently spans a few years time, and details my MC's experiences when she is 5-8 years old.) I've decided to try to break down chapter one into scene sections. Also, I've decided that I might not make it backstory. Why can't it be present action? (I was inspired by Curtis Sittenfeld's THE MAN OF MY DREAMS. Her MC, Hannah Gavener, is fourteen years old in the first chapter, w...

fetal friday?

I know that I left everyone hanging yesterday. You know, when I went to pee on that stick. (That was mean of me. Not the peeing, but the leaving hanging.) Well, I think the big reveal is best expressed in letter form. Deep breath. Here goes. dear unborn baby daughter son or daughter, I take it back. I take back everything I said about not wanting kids. I was just scaredspice, and the slightest bit selfish, and maybe I had a giant fear of commitment. But, three positive test results in the last eighteen hours seem to say that you actually are in there, getting all comfy. I guess you'll probably be here in mid-December. I never thought about having a Christmas baby. (You've really put a wrench in my whole taking-maternity-leave-during-the-NCAA-tournament plan, but that's okay. At least it's basketball season. Don't tell Daddy yet, but you are going to cheer for the Indiana Hoosiers.) Speaking of Daddy, I take back all the mean things I've ever sa...

Friday Fatigue: in which I am sleepyspice

You've been warned. This post may be a little sleepy, because I am litearally nodding off as I type these words. So, it's clearly fatespice that I decided to participate in my first Friday Five meme today. 1.How many hours’ sleep do you need in order to be at your best, and what’s the minimum you can get on a regular basis and still be functional? I need eight hours. I prefer more. Sometimes, I sleep ten or twelve hours on the weekends. (Shh. Don't tell people.) I can survive with six hours, but seriously, if I only get six hours my demeanor screams pothead. I either act aloof or braindead, usually both. 2.What’s your favorite sleeping position? Ahh, I love to sleep on my stomach with my arms curled underneath me boobies. (Yes, I basically, feel myself up while I'm sleeping.) Sometimes when I wake up I have no feeling at all in my arms or hands -- or that creepy tingling sensation. 3.What was the cause of your most recent difficulty sleeping? Well, las...

Confessional/ Q & A day

For those of you who read my TMI post yesterday , I have a confession to make: it was truth or scare in disguise. The entire story is true except the last paragraph. Though I was the waitress of the family in question, years after the camp events described, I did not contaminate their food with any of my bodily juices. Confessing that the end of the story is untrue is not very fun. In fact, I feel my ego deflating a bit as I type this now. I wish I was that person -- someone able to perform acts of sweet revenge. But, in my six years (plus) as a waitress, I never once messed with anyone's food. I mean, I may have peed once mid-shift and neglected to wash my hands, but let's be honest -- who hasn't done that a time or two? I'm crestfallen. Yesterday marks the first time I have fabricated a story for TMI Thursday. (It's way more fun to tell the truth.) I feel there is a penance to pay -- that I must redeem myself for the untruth that was told. I th...

because i am so lame.

Is it completely lame to take a nap at six p.m. on a Friday night? I'll be honest, crawling into my bed right now for a little shut-eye is more appealing than: eating dinner reading watching a movie writing drinking listening to music shopping watching television sex. I'm clearly still adjusting to my new work schedule. I haven't been this tired since that time the hubster and I went to bed at eight o'clock on a Saturday night. (You should have seen us the next morning -- up and six and saying, "Um, now what do we do?" We obviously don't normally wake up so early on a Sunday morning. I think we sat on the couch in a daze until the basketball game we wanted to watch actually started at noon. And we discovered breakfast, which is actually a morning meal. Who knew?) Oh, I did want to watch that Hope for Haiti telethon tonight. (Good thing, too, since it's going to be on like everysinglechannel there is.) I just checked and it starts at 8:0...
