Basic Story With 20 Points:

Could Adnan be Innocent?

"It's not a cop-out; it's case law."

~Bob Ruff, host, Truth and Justice Pod

1 Adnan was the main suspect - Hae's family passed that along to

Officer Adcock on the afternoon she disappeared. Originally, they suspected she might be with Don, even though she had to work at 6pm and had never once NOT brought her cousin home. Does anyone know how old the second cousin is? Two cousins lived with Hae. And Officer Adcock's Supplemental Report dated 1/13/99 states that Mr. Lee advises that she "did not pick up his two cousins from school.") Did they go to the same school, these cousins? Another question that could be explored is why Hae's uncle is the only immediately family member who doesn't live with Hae.

Another pain point for me - I'm confused as to why the cousins did not live with their dad, Hae's uncle... but look. Every family has different dynamics. I mean, I guess it could be that he has a small apartment. And Hae was sometimes sent over there to stay if she was misbehaving, so there was clearly extra room. But maybe not too much. This fluid living situation may be a cultural difference that I can't relate to. Maybe Mandy Johnson can assist me. All this to say that that, due to the language barrier, we don't have a full picture of the family situation.

I guess her family didn't realize what time Hae had to be at work, which was 6pm. Mr. Lee testified at trial that after a 3:30 call from Cousin 1's school, he tries calling her workplace and her best friend...  Once they called Adnan, their suspicions grew, as they recalled all the previous tension between Adnan and Hae and Adnan's family, though none of them had ever spent much time around Adnan. By the time Officer Adcock arrived, everyone in the family was terribly worried about what had become of Hae.

2 By the time Hae's body is found, the cops already suspect Adnan, and they'll have cell records ready before getting Jen P's name from Jay. Although, the detectives really could have shifted gears and investigated Sellers and other suspected parties more robustly.

In fact, the only reason Alonzo Sellers stopped out there in Leakin Park on his way back to work - well, look, he had to pee "real bad," as he told detectives. Look, people say that all the time. Even when your destination is about a mile from where you are at the time. It might even be reasonable to think that it would take longer to park, get out, cross the road - all to get back into woods deep enough so that you won't be caught with your pants down.

3) And that's a great point, self! But - the cops find out Jay had Adnan’s phone, so they go talk to Jay on the DL.

4) They get up in Jay’s face like some cops do and they tell him, and I loosely quote what I hypothesize they would have said: "Look, homeslice... we KNOW Adnan did it. We have proof. And we know you were involved because you had his phone and cell that day."

5) Jay knows nothing about anything, outside of - he did have the cell and the car that day.

6) Jay panicked, and he is like, "Come on cops, y’all calm down..." but they won’t…

7) ...so Jay falsely confesses to seeing and burying a body. The detectives have pushed and practically pulled him apart, with threats must less casual that the scenario I used as an example in point 4, above.

8) Now they’ve got him where they want him and they ask who else knew. They don't play nice - to put it mildly - but Ritz and McGillifckrface aren't really known for playing nice, are they?

9) He panics and says: it's his friend Jen. Jen knew, according to Jay. Jay was given no choice; he had to give them a name.

10) The cops go talk to Jen Pusateri, and according to the cop notes as the appear on a handwritten form, she didn’t have much info, so they say, “Bye Jen but we aren’t done talking to you.”

11) Jay is scared, and Jen is probably both pissed and scared

12) Jen confides in her mom, and Mom hires the attorney.

13) The attorney says, "Well, let’s make an appointment with the cops bc that would be better than dodging them when everyone knows they want to talk to Jen again and will come calling eventually either way."

14) So beings recorded interviews for both Jay and Jen, and they conflict a butt load. And that's a lot.

15) Their recorded interviews keep happening and their stories kinda sorta start to match up but not really.

16) And we haven’t even had to say the wordcell phone pings or how did he know where the car was??"

17) Because pings don’t matter and “knowing the location of the car” is only circumstantial at best….

18) Adnan is innocent (Holla if ya hear me!)

19) Someone killed Hae, but who? And why?

20) And I really freaking want to know who did it.

I watched Hoarders last night. During the first commercial break, I dared to look around my living room and I thought, oh holy mother of four-letter-word. Color me cluttered. Yes, it's true that most of my mess is hidden and collecting dust in the dark, but I know what's there -- like the 100+ VHS tapes in my bookshelf/ media cabinet, for instance. Yes, I love knowing that should I desire to watch my old school copy of Riding in Cars with Boys or Girls Just Wanna Have Fun or The Royal Tenembaums or Serendipity or Ghost World or Memento or... okay. You get the picture. It's there. If I wanted it, it would be right there. Also semi-hidden? Probaby 50+ copies of this weekly magazine from the late 1960's - early 1970's called Story of Life. My grandma gave them to me. Have I cracked the cover of even one issue? Hell to the no. I don't have time for that type of nostalgia. Plus, I can't even find a link for it with a quick google search. Something tha...

Preface: TGIF. It has been a day. So. I'm participating in the First Page Blogfest in which writers around the blogosphere post the opening 24 lines of their WIP. Please check out the other entries and leave them a comment on their work.
