Last Call: 12:21:10-12:29:44am - Clues in Jen McCabe's 12:29am Answered Call to John's Phone that WE ALL MISSED
Whether or not you agree that John and Karen got to 34 Fairview at 12:21 (see previous) post - we're picking up from there.
Per Nick Guarino and Ian Whiffin:
|
12:21:10 –
12:24:22 |
80 steps |
287 feet |
|
During time frame
from above: |
|
|
|
12:22:14 –
12:24:37 |
Ascending/
descending |
3 “floors”
(flights) |
So, there's a gap. John's phone is showing steps from 12:21-10 - 12:22:14 that are NOT up and down stairs.
This is the time frame, in the family room, that he was incapacitated. Puffed up chests, punch, dog, dog again, punch, thrust backward. Insert whoever's fist you'd like, but John went down and hit his head on the fireplace before 12:22:14.
Yes, the fight broke out, and John was down in about a minute - fights happen fast. (Regarding family rooms and fights, if you haven't followed Samantha Beningo and the "I Don't Belong Here" You Tube channel, I highly recommend it.)
Ian Whiffin breaks down the (upstairs or downstairs) "Flight Climb Data" even further:
On page 31 of his report, he lays it out in a paragraph, not in a table. I made a table:
|
1st
flight (down to basement – stairs have phone facing road) |
12:22:17am |
|
2nd
flight (down to basement - stairs twist – now facing backyard) |
12:22:32am |
|
3rd
flight (upstairs to Bulkhead door and into the backyard) |
12:24:37am |

After John goes down:
You can create your own adventure as to what happened between the time John went down and the time he got dragged to the basement. Here's my theory:
It would take at least 2 strong men to carry him. One of those would not be Brian Albert.
Brian Albert would be reigning in Chloe and barking out orders. (No pun intended.)
Brian would direct Higgins and at least one other man to drag carry John down. I do not think Matt McCabe or Brian Albert Jr would be instructed to do it. Perhaps it was Colin or Chris. Maybe both. It's actually neither here nor there for my purposes in researching.
From the data, I believe John's phone had hit the family room floor and was carried down by one of the men.
Again, you decide, but here's what I see:
Brian Albert is still in the family room handing Chloe off to Caitlyn to get her calmed down and locked up, when Julie Nagel realizes her brother and his friends are parted on the curb. (12:23 text "here")
Brian Albert says no one is leaving, and to get rid of them.
They discover Karen is still parked outside, and really start to panic - she can't come in.
Brian Albert instructs them that "the guy never came in the house." He tells Jen and Matt to start texting and calling John to make it seem like none of them know where John is.
And he tells Jen and Matt that they need to watch the SUV like a hawk. If Karen gets out, stall her. Talk to her outside. Don't let her in. Say anything - say John's drunk and everyone is pissed at Karen, because Brian Albert himself just found out on the New York trip about Karen trying to get with Higgins and Brian doesn't want her here, either, and John wants her to go back to 1 Meadows. Say John says he's going to flirt with Brian Albert Jr's college friends or hook up with Bella's mom. He just wants Karen to go bacl to 1 Meadows and he'll get a ride from Jen. He'll call her later. They'll calm him down. Just needs some time to blow off some steam. *more to come on this
And maybe Brian Albert tells Jen and Matt he's heading down to the basement but is not taking his own phone. And maybe that Jen and Matt should call John's phone when the coast is clear.
Some version of a conversation like this - from start to finish (take him downstairs - no one leaves - get rid of them - stall Karen) - could easily be accomplished in one minute, or 90 seconds. It's Brian Albert, afterall - he's doing all the talking. He's in charge.

So, I believe Brian Albert has made it to the basement himself before 12:24:37, at which time the guys down there begin carrying John up the bulkhead steps and into the backyard... because he hasn't come to, and Higgins/ Colin/ Chris/ whoever carried him have been down there with him for a couple of minutes and have realized the severity of his injuries. That is, if they hadn't already known in the family room that he wasn't going to make it.
At this point, they're just waiting on Karen to leave, and they have a little time to figure out some semblance of a plan.
What's happening upstairs during this time really intrigues me.
But I'll save that...
After the Nagel Crew Leaves, Jen gives the All Clear:
At 12:29:44am Jen McCabe's phone places a call to John O'Keefe's phone that lasts for 8 seconds. This call is answered, but Jen does not recall it, yet knows she did not speak to John.
I believe, full-throatedly, that this call was from Jen or Matt to Brian Albert, who was in the backyard with John and John's phone. They were letting Brian Albert know that the coast was clear. Brian told them to keep texting and trying to reach John - keep acting like you see them out front and keep being confused about why they didn't come in.
BEFORE 12:29:44, Karen had driven away.
And now, 2 and a half minutes before the last movement on John's phone, Brian Albert knew she was gone. And he was standing in the backyard.

Jessica Hyde's report
After midnight, Coldplay's "Fix You" shows up on John's extraction after every outgoing call placed and after every answered incoming call coming in. The 12:29:44 call just happened to be the last connected call.
The Commonwealth wanted Jessica Hyde to show that Karen wasn't playing any music that would have caused her to avoid hearing John shout before running him over, I guess. I mean, I assume? On page 6 of her undated report in the section labeled "Music" she tells us that the phone "recorded playing Fix You by the band Coldplay... intermittently from 12:14am through 12:29am..."
She continues: "There was no music use after that time."
Fix You wasn't playing on the Bluetooth. Fix You was only playing in the background on John's phone, and when the last answered call came through to his phone, the music stopped.
I hope it played through the speaker when Brian Albert hung up after that call from Jen. I hope Brian Albert had to press pause or turn it off.
I hope that song haunts him.
Next up:
Brian Albert is in the backyard with John O'Keefe and John O'Keefe's phone at 12:29am, what does he do next?
And, assuming she isn't just a whack job see you next Tuesday, why did Karen get SO mad at John after leaving Fairview?
