scary

I was afraid to log in to blogger. I thought all of my posts might be MIA. Looks okay so far... I saw quite a few tweets from those of you who worried that posts might be lost to the bowels of the internets. Did everyone get their work back? We're weekending here at the Murphy homestead. Hubs just went to a buddy's house to fix the brakes on his car. I'm seriously wondering if he'll be home before midnight. Those boys can make the simplest thing take all. day. long. (And by simple, I mean, shouldn't we just pay someone else to do it?) Stella and I are enjoying a lazy morning. (And by lazy, I mean, I've started laundry, cleaned up clutter, and tried to make a dent on the housework... while she's napping.) She's five months old today. We're celebrating with bananas, assuming Mr. Murphy gets home in time. Stella's been doing great with rice cereal and we are so excited to start her on new foods. I need to put the camera battery on charge STAT...

Friday Five

1. I'm going to run over my neighbor's cat. Not on purpose. It won't be my fault. See, he likes to lounge in my driveway (the cat, not the neighbor) and when I try to pull my car into said driveway, the damn cat does not budge. I actually had to stop at the top of my driveway yesterday and shoo him to get him to skedoodle. And that was a lot of work. So, I'm considering accidental-looking cat murder. 2. I felt really fat today, and I kept complaining about  mentioned it. In front of an obese coworker. Then, I felt insensitive and fat. 3. Is anyone else watching Big Brother? Or am I the only one? Anyone planning on watching Bachelor Pad? It starts Monday and I am already salivating over the impending sleeze. 4. Seriously, I love writing for Examiner.com . Check out all the articles I've written so far here.  (Also, read my super cute bio. It rocks, if I do say so myself.) 5. Something in my kitchen reekslikeass. It might be my leftover-leftovers fr...

in which i resort to complete hibernation

If you don't follow me on facebook, you aren't aware of the excitement I had this weekend. You clearly weren't privy to my latest status update, in which I admitted that I spent my Saturday evening sleeping. See, hubs and I watched the USA in their World Cup finale, and then we decided to have a little nappy. We crawled under the covers at 5:00 pm, and I figured we'd sleep for a couple of hours. Hubs wanted to go to the driving range in the evening (he's like all into golf now. Preppy, collaredshirtspice!) and I wanted to do a bit of housework aimless twittering, reading, and writing. So, imagine my surprise when I woke up to complete and total darkness. The sun was down, the clock said 10:49 p.m. Whoops! Yeah, my nap lasted six hours. What? You got a problem with that?! (Don't cross me, I'm preggers.) I got up, ate a large bowl of chocolate ice cream, read, watched a little late night boob tube... and before I knew it, a couple hours slid by. Hubs ...

Friday Fatigue: in which I am sleepyspice

You've been warned. This post may be a little sleepy, because I am litearally nodding off as I type these words. So, it's clearly fatespice that I decided to participate in my first Friday Five meme today. 1.How many hours’ sleep do you need in order to be at your best, and what’s the minimum you can get on a regular basis and still be functional? I need eight hours. I prefer more. Sometimes, I sleep ten or twelve hours on the weekends. (Shh. Don't tell people.) I can survive with six hours, but seriously, if I only get six hours my demeanor screams pothead. I either act aloof or braindead, usually both. 2.What’s your favorite sleeping position? Ahh, I love to sleep on my stomach with my arms curled underneath me boobies. (Yes, I basically, feel myself up while I'm sleeping.) Sometimes when I wake up I have no feeling at all in my arms or hands -- or that creepy tingling sensation. 3.What was the cause of your most recent difficulty sleeping? Well, las...

finding a focus

I've stumbled across quite a few blog entries in the past couple of days that speak of one's blog needing a focus. It has caused me to stop and wonder: is my blog too broad? I would love some feedback from my followers. Do you find me completely random? Do you think I have a voice? What would you like me to blog about? In the interim, I shall entertain you with a random (of course, random!) moment from my weekend. While hanging out at a local pub called Flanagnan's on Saturday night, I went outside on the patio to smoke a cigarette, leaving my non-smoker friend inside the bar.  A man used the following line on me after striking up a conversation by dubbing me "lonely cigarette girl." He said, "You're homely hot." I said, "Pardon?" He tried to defend his come-on. "You know, you're that type of girl who can just throw on a sweater, some jeans, and a cute pair of shoes, and still look smokin' hot." His friend said, ...

...reunited and it feels so good...

Tomorrow is my ten year high school reunion. I have mixed feelings about celebrating this completed decade of adulthood. My senior year was one of the greatest years of my life. No, I didn't party like it was 1999 (even though it was , in fact, 1999) but I did meet this intelectual, wonderful, thought-provoking, heart-piercing boy... and promptly made him my boyfriend. He was the slightest bit younger than me, so he is not a member of my graduating class. Sadly, thankfully, there is no need to obsess about running into said ex at the reunion. As implied above, he isn't the man I ended up marrying. Le sigh. There is something to be said for first loves, whether it's "What was his name again?" or "My heart still skips around four beats when I think of him/ look at old pictures of us together/ stalk his facebook page." When I think back to high school, I will always think of him. I feel a little bit sad about the reunion. Wow. Ten years later and I am st...

finally friday!

I did it. I faithfully blogged every day this week, because I am the most awesome person you know. Most people love Fridays; it's the last day of the work week, sometimes it's payday, it's the start of the weekend if you work a nine-to-five, it might be date night, blah. Etc. TGI- eff-ing F. Bankers do not love Fridays, because it's always somebody's payday. On Fridays many of these somebodies want to cash their paychecks although they do not have a checking account and they are no more interested in opening a checking account than they were when you asked them last Friday, when they got their last paycheck and, really? There's a $10.00 check cashing fee? That's bullshit. You mean to tell me that you are going to charge me ten entire dollars to cash a check drawn on your own god damn bank? Yes, sir. We can cash it for you as a courtesy, since the check is drawn on our bank and we can verify that the funds are available, but we charge you ten entire...

weekend bliss

Today, I have my first ever appointment with a therapist. How exciting! Well, let me be frank. It isn't my first session ever. However, when I tried therapy in the past, it usually ended with me crying uncontrollably and making a hasty exit. Google or you tube the song "What Do You Hear in These Sounds" for a better understanding of my feelings regarding therapy: "...and oh, how I loved/everybody else/when I finally got to talk/so much about myself..." I'm not sure why, exactly, I am going to therapy - and hope no one judges me or finds it terribly self indulgent. I am making a bunch of life changes... marriage, submitting writing samples to various publications, toying with the idea of pursuing an MFA... and I feel that therapy will help me to keep it all in perspective. I tend to attempt involvement in too many things at once. Perhaps I feign involvement, because it too often doesn't pan out into being actually involved. Err... sorry. I'll save it...
