more cool than uncool

Uncool Things About Today I was supposed to have my second baby-doctor's appointment today, but apparently, my OBGYN has more patients than just me, and one of them decided to go into labor. Sadly, I busted my hump to get out of work with enough time to scarf down a bite to eat before my 2:00 appointment time, and didn't get the voicemail about needing to reschedule the visit until I was pulling into the frakking parking lot. Oh well. Cool Things About Today Since I'd already broken out of the office (okay, the bank branch, but doesn't "the office" sound cool-er?) I decided not to go back this afternoon. I'm working the Saturday morning hours, so I don't have to use personal time -- I just won't get any overtime this week. With free time in front of me, I drove around in the late May heat with my air conditioner cranked and my sunglasses on, drinking iced tea and making eyes at hot boys in hot cars next to me at red lights. (Can't s...

i cry like a girl, and i watch my television closer than my finances

I must be a girl. Several things made me cry -- like actual wet tears on face -- today. I am not ashamed to admit the first thing that opened up my tear ducts (faster than chopping an onion) was American Idol. Finding out who makes it to the Top 24 (i.e. the-performance-round-which-is-all-that-really-matters) is one of the highlights of the Idol season. Tonight's episode revealed 7 of the lucky 12 guys and the lucky 12 gals who are younger than me have the chance of a lifetime. When that gal Didi found out she made it? Yup, I went all sobspice. Cause her friend died and stuff. And, she had on a cute hat. And, she sang a Kara Dioguardi song during Hollywood week. I heart her! Secondly, I cried when I noticed the state of disorder which is my checkbook. (Bankers sometimes get overdrawn, too.) Luckily, I have that credit line which spots me in fifty dollar increments. So it isn't like I got any transactional overdraft fees. (If that had happened, I'd probably s...

everything but the kitchen sink

Yesterday, I made a promise. I promised my husband that I would do the dishes tonight. This is not awesome. The sink is full to overflowing and I have a sneaking suspicion that the majority of the dishes and utensils may be best described as crusty. The predicament is that I have not done dishes in um, over a week. Granted, that's only 4 or so actual meals in the Murphy household. Typically, we eat at least one frozen pizza per week, which requires minimal cleanup. We never cook breakfast (unless it's at dinner time!) and when I do come home for lunch, I heat up something lean-cuisine-ish and dirty only a fork. Then there are the nights -- like tonight -- when I bring home Qboda and chew away stress. (Chicken nachos > antidepressants.) I'm procrastinating... there are several items that are daunting me more than a little: there's a casserole dish from shepherd's pie which is soaking at the bottom of the sink like long-buried treasure, certain to be alg...

mornings plus me do not equal love

Good morning. (No, I'm lying. It's not a good morning. This morning seriously sucks.) (Don't mind me, that's the tired talking.) I am just not used to this new schedule yet. Before yesterday, I could not tell you the last time I left my house before 9:00 in the morning. I'm sure those of you with kids or other early morning responsibilities are singing Cry Me a River in Justin Timberlake's beautiful falsetto even as you read this. Which is fair, I guess. I mean, it's my fault you had babies. Just kidding, friends. Pausespice to make coffee so to summon the nice amber... And... here she is. So, yesterday morning was a bit easier than today. I guess there was the novelty of the darkness that greeted me when I rolled out of bed at 6:30 and rushed through a blog post. Hubs, who had gotten his shower Monday night, crawled back into bed for a few minutes, so I had the peace and quiet of the house, my coffee (all I had to do was push the start butto...

them's fightin' words

I am so zapped today. I think I need to stop staying up so late every night. Seriously, I do not even have the energy to compose this. My eyes are closing. Oh God. Caffeine crash. I am pretty sure this is like the time Jessie Spano (from Saved by the Bell, of course) was strung out on uppers and was soooo excited, sooo excited... so, so scared. Not only am I fatigued, I am also tired of certain elements of my job, like not being able to straight cuss out certain people who I work with. Seriously shut the hell up and do your job. Khtankxbye.
