Today, I become an expert in the art of...

BREASTFEEDING!

I'm attending my first prenatal class this evening at the hospital where I will deliver the baby in December.

This particular class is all about breastfeeding, a subject which intimidated me less before I google-image-searched it. (Seriously, boys. Go wild. I've never seen so much areola in my life.)

I really hope breastfeeding works out for me, though... because I need to do it to save money. (Okay, I'm looking forward to that bond with the baby, too.)

I was going over a few budgeting issues last night and I realized that by the time my child is a toddler we will probably be living out of our car. Oh, but she'll have a really nice day care Monday - Friday from morning til night. So, that's cool.

I just can't get over it: $190 a week?! For daycare?! It sounds so insanely expensive, but I figure baby will be there 9 hours a day/ 5 days a week... which really only works out to about $4.2222222 an hour.

But, I digress. I was supposed to be writing about breastfeeding.

Yeah, so I'll let you know how my milking-class goes, and what I learn, and stuff.

It will be okay! 190 is not bad a lot of other places are more expensive so just keep thinking about that wonderful thing haha.. are you doing a center day care or a home based daycare?

Good luck at class. I'm sure everything will work out fine. $190 is pretty good though. Some places around here are a lot more.
Take care.

I'm sorry, did you say something? I was tripping happily off to areola land.

Yuck... Oops I mean Good Luck, lol.

$190 is actually a great price for daycare, not that it isn't expensive but lately I've been hearing $250-300!! Outrageous isn't it!!!

Good luck with the nursing! I tried it with each of my three, but just didn't have the confidence / commitment to take it long-term.

Ack. Daycare prices have gone up since my daughter was a baby. Holy cow.

Good luck with your breastfeeding class. My niece had her baby last month (a boy, btw). She chose the breastfeeding route and from what I've heard, everything is going well. I'll send positive thoughts for everything to go as smoothly for you. =o)

Dude, $190 a week is a good deal.

Breastfeeding is hugely cheap, I agree, but I hate to break it to you-- you won't become an expert until you do it.

And here's another secret no one ever tells you, and every new mother (including myself) FREAKS THE HELL OUT ON because no one tells you this: after you give birth, your milk won't come in for at least 4 or 5 days. So you will not be able to really breastfeed until it comes in -- and it will, like gangbusters. It will spurt everywhere after 4 or 5 days. I look forward to your TMI Thursdays on that in fact.

Write in sharpie on your arm before going to the hospital, so you won't feel bad when you daughter doesn't latch on because there's very little coming out. "WAIT 4 DAYS" is all you need. Sometimes it takes 3, but you know, put 4 on there just in casers.

And Tina is right, breastfeeding sucks all the fat right out of you (40 pounds for me).

In addition, breast feeding after birth helps shrink the uterus faster, reducing the residual discomfort. It also assists in losing the pregnancy weight, and provides your baby with the perfect mix of tailor-made nutrients. Just stay hydrated, is all.

Yes, my wife breastfed three children. Why do you ask?

Also, you have the lovely pleasure of making people seriously uncomfortable when you whip out the mammary in public and let your baby go to town. Seriously, just watch the looks on their faces as they try to have a normal conversation with you while avoiding staring at your breast. It's awesome.

Evil, but awesome.

Closing Arguments, Trial 3. The Defense: Closing the Case of Adnan Syed v Alice LaCour and Brett Talley

Would Hae Have Liked Pineapple on Pizza? If it Pleases the Court... Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I want to start by thanking you for your time. It is no small task to put your lives on hold and focus in on the details and particulars and specifics of this case, and it may be a struggle to focus when you have to think about what you're missing at home. Your civil duty - and your willingness to fulfill it - does NOT go unnoticed. I mentioned "time." It's a relative, term, right? I had to wait in line at the post office for 15 minutes. I waited for the checkout gal at Wal-Mart for 20, because they didn't have enough lanes open. I don't know about you, but I try to be patient. Sometimes I fail to wait gracefully, but I really do try.  So. Look at Adnan. For over TWENTY-THREE YEARS he has been waiting... patiently. 23 years ago, I was about the same age as Adnan. I graduated high school in the spring of 1999, just like he did - or would have - had he not bee

20 Points in a Basic Story in the Botched Case Against Adnan Syed: I Must Be Insane as that's 5x More than any Other Basic Story Presentation I've Ever Seen

Basic Story With 20 Points:  Could Adnan be Innocent? "It's not a cop-out; it's case law." ~Bob Ruff, host, Truth and Justice Pod   1 Adnan was the main suspect - Hae's family passed that along to Officer Adcock on the afternoon she disappeared. Originally, they suspected she might be with Don, even though she had to work at 6pm and had never once NOT brought her cousin home. Does anyone know how old the second cousin is? Two cousins lived with Hae. And Officer Adcock's Supplemental Report dated 1/13/99 states that Mr. Lee advises that she "did not pick up his two cousins from school.") Did they go to the same school, these cousins? Another question that could be explored is why Hae's uncle is the only immediately family member who doesn't live with Hae.  Another pain point for me - I'm confused as to why the cousins did not live with their dad, Hae's uncle... but look. Every family has different dynamics. I mean, I gues

Not The Nisha Call: Other Things to Consider in the Case of Adnan Syed

"If there is anything about my case, man - I want to know... I want to test it... There's nothing about my case that that I'm afraid of." - Adnan Syed Serial, Episode 12: What We Knew Instead of focusing on a flower and Jay's Changing Stories, Consider This: A) The policemen handling the Missing Persons Investigation did sloppy and lazy work. They back dated reports and failed to interview multiple people  thoroughly enough. B) The police did not interview the family robustly enough to understand what else might have been going on in Hae's life. They, to my knowledge, did not find a translator and instead relied on the guidance of her younger brother. C) A computer, a floppy disk containing electronic diary entries were noted and later went "missing"  D) Hae's email and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) accounts were never researched thoroughly, and her online activity is relatively unknown, outside of her newly updated "away message" which s
