pre-birthday and 100 followers! celebration

If you didn't already know, now you do: tomorrow is my birthday! Also, I finally reached 100 followers over the weekend.

(Actually, I gained 11 followers, because I signed up for this insane Friday Follow business, in which over 750 people link their blogs and follow each other. I consider this a semi-sell-out move on my part. but I really wanted to reach 100 followers by my birthday. And I did. And I feel awesome. And popular.)

And.

I get to have the duty 100 Follower Giveaway. Stay tuned for deets... I'll post the giveaway tomorrow. If you'd like, you can feel free to leave suggestions on just what I should give to you in the comments.)

Here are a few ideas to warm up your Monday brains:

an autographed photo of me
a strand of my hair
a vlog in which I karaoke (again) and, this time, dedicate the song to you, the winner! (ohh, you could even choose the song!)
or, a gift card to a place. you know. the regular kind of give-away gift.

Yes, let me know if any of those prizes sound appealing!

In other news, I went out for a pre-birthday celebration on Saturday. After a yummy sushi dinner with the rents and my hubs, the Mister and I headed out for karaoke as planned.

I so wanted to ask hubs to record me singing, but I couldn't figure out a way to ask him which didn't sound excessively self-absorbent. I settled for a photo-op instead.

The red-eye replacement was jacked up. That's why I have beady eyes. Just so you know.

My mama got me the zipper shirt for my birthday. Do you want to know what brand it is?
It's from the fashionable Miley Cyrus label.
Who else can rock that out at almost-twenty-nine?

Hubs and I at the end of the night. You can understand why he got cropped out of the photo above.

I look, um, a little tipsy. Mostly, I was just happy because I got to sing three songs, including the very last song of the night... because I was the birthday girl.

Cakespice.

If I get to participate in the giveaway, I will always suggest bacon. Bacon is an all-occasion gift. (Okay, maybe not Channukah, but almost all-occasion.)

looks like fun! What songs did you sing!?

Um... if I were to win your giveaway, I would expect a video of you singing and dedicating "The Wind Beneath my Wings" to ME! And at the end of course, feel free to throw in my name "Thank God for you, Ashley....the Wind Beneath my Wings."

That would be awesomespice. ; )

HB big girl. FYI: does April 24th mean anything to you? No... hitler was born on the 21st. 24th is Chipper Jones, Cedric the Entertainer. Jean-Paul Gaultier, Barbara Streisand, Shirley McLain (who also claims July 17, Nov. 4, Jan. 18 from previous lives) and moi. Numbers mean nothing. Breathing is the deal. Have a great day.

Happy Birthday to my favorite Louisvillean (ite? ist? er? WTF is it?). 100 followers -- wow, I'm jealous.
Happy birthday! I think it should be a celebrity style give-away. Like, a sweaty genuine Amber-worn t-shirt that you autograph.
I must say that I would love a karaoke shout out haha.. ;)

Happy birthday tomorrow!!!! Congratulations on your 100 followers, that's awesome :) And my vote for the giveaway is... I can't decide!! A strand of your hair is like, the ULTIMATE gift for a stalker, but then again, an autographed photo will be worth a lot after you're published... aaaack!!

Oh, and I love sushi too, yummmmmm :) :)
@ Amalia - thanks so much!

@ Elliott - or perhaps a teacup pig. (Do you watch How I Met your Mother? You would have to watch it to get the reference.)

@ Ashley - I sang:
The Eagle's "Desperado"
Reba's "Why Haven't I Heard from You" (first time singing that!)
and Keith Whitley's "When You Say Nothing At All" (my signature karoake song!)

Thanks for the award. :)

@sarahjayne - thanks. I can't wait to start reading your blog since I just realized I haven't been following you... I remedied that!

@ Jerry - I'm confused. Is your birthday 4/24?

@ Trav - Louisvillian. You were really close!

@ ND - Ohh, I love your giveaway idea! If only I could part with my "product of the 80's" t-shirt. I'm just not sure I have it in me.

@ pinkflips - Hmm. Not ruling out the karaoke shout out! And, yes. If you are in the Ville we should def. get together! Email me when the dates are solid. I would love to meet a bloggy friend in person!

@alittlepink(amber) - thanks for the birthday wishes. Mwah!

@christine - thanks for the birthday wishes! I'll be stopping by your blog!

Happy Birthday! Mine is Thursday. :) I found your blog because someone commented on my blog, and then I went to his blog, and he linked to your blog. And he was from Indiana or something and I still am.

So, hi! :)

fetal friday?

I know that I left everyone hanging yesterday. You know, when I went to pee on that stick. (That was mean of me. Not the peeing, but the leaving hanging.) Well, I think the big reveal is best expressed in letter form. Deep breath. Here goes. dear unborn baby daughter son or daughter, I take it back. I take back everything I said about not wanting kids. I was just scaredspice, and the slightest bit selfish, and maybe I had a giant fear of commitment. But, three positive test results in the last eighteen hours seem to say that you actually are in there, getting all comfy. I guess you'll probably be here in mid-December. I never thought about having a Christmas baby. (You've really put a wrench in my whole taking-maternity-leave-during-the-NCAA-tournament plan, but that's okay. At least it's basketball season. Don't tell Daddy yet, but you are going to cheer for the Indiana Hoosiers.) Speaking of Daddy, I take back all the mean things I've ever sa

Brett and Alice's Writing Style is the Real Crime Here

Here is a nearly sentence-by-sentence reconstruction of Brett and Alice's most recent episode of their podcast "The Prosecutors" - titled Adnan Syed is Guilty. I will not be utilizing the strikethrough in every sentence but will do so when I am compelled and will try to bold sections I've added. I've highlighted some of my favorite and most poignant edits.  I've tired and failed to stay away from a bit of snark. This endeavor was exhausting.  My work will illustrate how Brett Talley and Alice LaCour use narrative spin to bring you their version of events that they want to, for whatever reason, call "facts." I start just before the 4 minute mark.  Transcript So,, Adnan Syed and Hae Min Lee dated for quite some time  when they were in high school, starting around March 1998. They’d stay together for the next 9 months or so, though they broke up twice during that period.   They were on-again off-again until around Halloween and broke up for good before
